Lines' family's roots run deep in the beautiful region of Jávea and Dénia, a place we've visited countless times. It's no wonder Merijn, like so many Dutchies, fell in love with it too. We’ve gathered a few insider tips to share with you, in case you have some extra time to explore this stunning area.
Whether you’re looking to relax on the beaches or indulge in delicious local food, we’ve got some great recommendations for you. And if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, why not hike up the Montgó and take in the breathtaking view - it's where our proposal moment happened!
The old town
Step back in time and discover the charm of Jávea’s old town, a hidden gem that captures the essence of traditional Spanish life. Wander through its narrow, cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses, where history comes to life in every corner. You’ll find stunning Gothic architecture, ancient stone walls, and the impressive Church of San Bartolomé, which has stood watch over the town for centuries.
The old town offers more than just history—explore its bustling markets, unique shops, and cozy cafés where you can enjoy authentic local delicacies. It’s a perfect place to lose yourself in the quiet beauty of a time long past, while still enjoying the vibrant energy of modern Spanish culture.
El Puerto
The harbour has our hearts. On one hand because of the memories of abuela watching over the streets from her balcony, the open air cinema and the stunning marina church. On the other hand its just a very pretty, picturesque area.
It's where the charm of a traditional fishing village meets the lively vibe of a coastal town. Stroll along the vibrant promenade, where fishing boats still bring in their daily catch, and soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere as you pass by bustling seafood restaurants, trendy bars, and charming boutiques.
El arenal
This is the vibrant heart of Jávea’s beach life, a lively stretch of golden sand and sparkling turquoise waters that attracts sunseekers and fun lovers alike. Known for its beautiful, family-friendly beach, this area offers everything you need for a perfect day by the sea—whether you want to swim in calm waters, relax on a sunbed, or enjoy beachside cocktails.
The palm-lined promenade is full of life, with a fantastic selection of restaurants, bars, and cafés offering everything from tapas to fine dining, often with stunning sea views.
Jávea hosts quite a few - very beautiful beaches, here is our top 4 favorites:
A beautiful beach with nature surroundings. There is a nice walking route to the peak overlooking the bay.
Beach within Jávea, sandy, easy to get to, lots of restaurants & bars around.
Very nice sandy beach. Can be busy, but worth the drive. Make sure to book a table at restaurant Cala Clemence.
Something different! short drive, short walk, not crowded. You'll need watershoes, but a very nice and sereen place.
There are too many good restaurants to choose from in Jávea. Here are just a few of our favorites:
Our personal favourite for eating a really good Paella Valenciana or fresh fish they catch every day with their own boat.
A little drive from the village, but the (sunset) views from the hanging terrace over the sea are absolutely stunning.
Situated at the end of the Arenal Boulevard, with award winning Paella's.
Walk all the way down to their patio. They have a great day-menu with a true local experience.
You're in luck! Around the wedding, the vibrant Fiestas de San Juan will light up the streets of Jávea. This yearly festival has a rich tradition and will bring the whole village to the streets. During these days there will be different festivities, parties, bull runs, fireworks and more. The absolute highlight is on the 23rd of June, where everyone will jump a series of fires throughout the village, join the parade and dance around the main bonfire. Absolutely spectacular.
Send us a messsage: we got plenty where that came from :)
